BOGOR-TODAY.COM, BANJAR – An Alfamart building in Gambut District, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan, precisely on Jalan Ahmad Yani km 14 collapsed. Three people were reported to have died when the building collapsed.
Launching cnnindonesia.com, Tuesday (19/4/2022) based on eyewitness testimony, the Alfamart building cracked for ten seconds before collapsing, trapping a number of customers including employees.
South Kalimantan Police Chief Inspector General Pol Rikwanto said that the information obtained from residents around the Alfamart building which has 3 floors is an old building that is approximately 20 years old and standing on former swamp or peat land. Then natural conditions such as being often submerged in water due to swamp or peat areas to flood disasters, so it should be suspected that the construction was not in accordance with the initial conditions.
However, to determine the cause of this incident, the South Kalimantan Regional Police will bring in the Surabaya branch of the Police Forensic Laboratory (Labfor) Team to the East Java Police.
“Hopefully, today it will come to conduct an examination and process the crime scene,” said Rikwanto in his statement.
As of Monday midnight, the joint SAR team together with community volunteers were still evacuating a number of victims who were thought to be trapped. Rikwanto said that five people were thought to be still under the ruins of the old building.
“Temporary data there are 16 victims including six employees. Eight people were evacuated safely and three died,” he said.
Meanwhile, Alfamart’s Corporate Affairs Director, Solhihin, in an upload on Alfamart’s official Instagram account, said that his party would bear the medical expenses and compensation for the victims.
According to him, Alfamart’s management is also concerned and condolences for this incident. (*)
